This is in honour of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace
The United Nations requests a twenty-four-hour halt to all hostilities worldwide on International Peace Day. In addition, it requests that people observe a moment of silence at noon in order to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict and violence. The United Nations headquarters hosts a ceremony known as the Peace Bell Ceremony. In June 1954, the United Nations Association of Japan donated the Peace Bell. Individuals from sixty-five member countries contributed coins to the metal bell. We ring the bell multiple times throughout the year, including on International Peace Day, as a symbol of hope for peace. After the bell rings, the Secretary-General of the United Nations will deliver a message.
To fulfil its objectives, the International Day of Peace
“Commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all nations and peoples” is the meaning behind the International Day of Peace, which is observed annually. Basically, it wants to make the world a more peaceful place for everyone. Peace is something that permeates practically every facet of our existence. For this particular day, the United Nations selects a new subject each year, such as “End racism: build peace” or “Climate action for peace.” The United Nations chooses these two themes as examples. Through this, we understand that achieving genuine peace requires treating all individuals equally, and combating the climate emergency that threatens our lives.
We are observing the International Day of Peace
Individuals in cities, towns, and villages all around the world can participate in a broad variety of activities on this particular day. In addition to observing a moment of silence at noon (local time), individuals can also participate in a one-minute silence. This may be in the realm of the arts, specifically photography, cinema, music, or dance production. One example of such a peaceful activity could be a football match or other sporting event. On the other hand, it might be yoga, meditation, or prayer. In addition, children and adolescents participate in a wide variety of activities that are associated with peace and harmony. These activities frequently centre on the prevention of bullying and violence in schools.
On the internet, we celebrate the International Day of Peace
When compared to 1981, there is a significant increase in the number of people who are aware of International Peace Day thanks to the internet and social media. Social media platforms share posts that spread information, ideas, and messages of peace, reaching millions of individuals worldwide. During the day, individuals have the opportunity to register for a variety of online activities, including live shows, conferences, and workshops, among other things.
What can each of us do to promote peace?
In addition to putting an end to worldwide wars, the Day of Peace is about more than that. Furthermore, it pertains to changing our conduct towards each other and the environment. By way of illustration, we can make an effort to bring peace into our personal lives by apologizing to a person we know and attempting to make peace with them. One person’s actions can have a significant impact when multiplied by millions of individuals all over the world, and each of us has the ability to contribute to making the world a more peaceful place.
